Historical Note

The Basic College, established in 1944, encouraged liberal education and integrated thinking. It required students during their first two years to take classes in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities before deciding on a field of specialization. In 1960 the Basic College became the University College. The Effective Living Department was part of the now defunct Basic College. “Effective Living” pertains to the social, moral, and civil responsibilities of living, primarily as they relate to the family.
