Historical Note
Community Volunteers for International Programs is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization supported by the Office for International Students and Scholars at Michigan State University. Their mission is to increase mutual cross-cultural understanding and goodwill between MSU's international students, visiting scholars, their families, and the greater Lansing community by organizing activities and programs that supplement and enhance specialized services offered by various units at MSU. The previous name of the organization was Community Volunteers for International Visitors.
The Christmas Adventure in World Understanding was a program at Michigan State University, developed in part by M.S.C. faculty member Louise Carpenter, where international students from around the United States would come to East Lansing to spend their Christmas holiday. Students would spend time with families in the area and partake in Christmas festivities, along with other special programs.
Scope and Contents note
The collection contains newsletters published by the organization. There are a number of event programs for the Christmas Adventure in World Understanding program from the 1950s through the 1980s. Also included are photographs from these events during this time, as well as financial records of the annual program. There is also research on the topic of the program included in the collection as well.
