Biographical/Historical

The Commission on Admissions and Student Body Composition was appointed by the President of Michigan State University, Clifton Wharton, in 1970. The Commission's goal was to examine the place of MSU in context within higher education and society as a whole in the 1960s. A primary area of concern was access to higher education. This Commission was asked to examine the criteria and standards used in MSU's admission policies. Their task was to recommend methods that would allow for wider access to higher education, especially for minorties and disadvantaged students. Ira Polley was a Consultant to the President and Executive Director of the Commission. The final report of the Commission was finished in late 1971.
