Historical Note
In 1968, a group of clerical-technicians were dissatisfied with their treatment from the University and decided to organize to bargain for wages and working conditions. The group earned enough support that by September 1969 the group adopted bylaws and elected officers. The Michigan State University Employees’ Association was organized on March 26, 1974 to act as the bargaining agent for clerical and technical employees at MSU. On September 17, 1974, the MSU Employees’ Association was officially created. Their growth led them to change their name from the MSU Employees’ Association to the Clerical Technical Union. The new union joined the Coalition of Labor Organizations at MSU in 1988.

Scope and Content
The Clerical-Technical Union (CTU) Records consists of agreements between MSU and MSUEA, announcements of meetings, a proposed MSUEA Constitution, MSUEA Classification Study Committee Report, memos, a vote notice, and an information pamphlet.
