Biographical Note

Cyril M. Worby was born on June 23, 1928 in New Jersey to William and Pola Worby.

After a year spent as a Cadet Midshipman in the Merchant Marine, Worby received his B.A. from Antioch College in 1952 where he met his wife, Marsha.

He attended medical school and took up a residency in psychiatry at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He served three years as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He returned to the University of Rochester as an assistant professor and Clinical Director of a psychiatric inpatient unit.

He went on to work at Michigan State University, Case Western Reserve and University of Nevada, Reno. At MSU he founded the Family Life Clinic.

He retired in 1995 and passed away on July 3, 2015.

Scope and Content

The Cyril M. Worby papers contain materials about the Family Life Cycle Studies and Referral Clinic including proposals and three year plan, memos, procedures, evaluation of medical clerkship, and closing report. Also included are memos relating to the College of Human Medicine and Department of Psychiatry, a handout about the clinical encounter and listening tools, and College of Human Medicine student newsletter from 1981. There is also an East Lansing High School student government newsletter from 1971 which mentions Worby.
