Charles R. Hoffer (1893-1977) taught Sociology at Michigan State University from 1925 until his retirement in 1976.

The Charles Hoffer collection consists of a history of the development of rural sociology at Michigan State University from 1924-1969. Also included is biographical material on Hoffer and the article "The Development of Rural Sociology" printed in the journal "Rural Sociology" in March 1961.
