Biographical Note

Rufus Percival Hibbard was born in New Haven, Connecticut on April 2, 1875. He earned his B.A. from Williams College in 1899 and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1906. He served at the Mississippi A & M college experiment station from 1908-1911. He became an instructor of Botany at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in 1911 and an associate professor in 1923. He retired from Michigan State in 1940. He was one of the founders of the National Society of Plant Physiology and a member of Sigma Xi fraternity. Hibbard passed away August 26, 1953.

Scope and Contents note

This collection consists of a notebook of R. P. Hibbard entitled “Physiological Botany.” Included in the notebook are approximately 50 written experiments regarding the basics of Botany.
