Biographical Note

Leroy S. Foltz obtained his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1911, followed by his Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of California in 1917. He came to the Michigan State campus in 1920 and became the head of the Michigan State College Electrical Engineering Department. He was granted the title of Distinguished Professor in September 1947. He assisted in the formation of the Phi Kappa Phi honor fraternity chapter on the MSC campus, as well as the formation of the Faculty Club of MSC, which he served as the first secretary, and the Engineers Club of Lansing. He has published many articles within his field and invented a primitive fire alarm some 17 years before commercial fire alarms were patented.

Scope and Contents note

This collection consists mainly of publications credited to Leroy S. Foltz over his distinguished career. Also included is personal correspondence between Foltz and organizations in which he was a member, and correspondence with John Hannah, president of Michigan State College (now Michigan State University), as well as newspaper clippings, talks given on education by Foltz and letters to the editor of various newspapers.
