Biographical Note

Raymond McCallum Clark graduated from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1922. He proceeded to earn his Master's degree from MSC (now MSU), in 1932. From 1938 to 1951, Clark worked as an Assistant Professor at MSC. He also served as State Supervisor of Agricultural Education from 1939 to 1949. Clark received his Doctorate of Education from MSC in 1950 and became an Associate Professor in 1951. Finally, he became a full Professor of Education in 1964. He continued to teach Agricultural Education until his retirement in 1970, when he was awarded the status of Professor Emeritus. Clark was a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Michigan Association of Teachers of Vocational Agriculture, the American Association of Teacher Educators in Agriculture, and the American Vocational Association. He was the editor of a service letter to teachers of vocational agriculture in Michigan and has authored, co-authored, and edited a number of publications in the field of vocational agricultural education.

Scope and Contents note

The majority of Raymond Clark's papers consist of publications related to the teaching of vocational agriculture. Clark authored, co-authored, edited or contributed to these works, which were published between 1958 and 1972. Some of these were written for Michigan State University and other for various organizations such as the Michigan Association of Teachers of Vocational Agriculture and Consumers Power Company. The publications include demonstration materials for teachers to use in the class room, procedural advice for teaching agricultural education, and personal anecdotes from Clark's career to guide and assist educators. Also included in Clark's papers are the records of his participation as consultant and instructor for the "Workshop on Performance Objectives" at the University of Kentucky in 1970. This group of materials includes correspondence, papers presented by Clark and others at the workshop, and items from Dr. Elaine Uthe, Clark's colleague at MSU and another consultant. Finally, there are exercise sheets and survey forms which act as a complement to the papers and to the workshop as a whole.
