Historical Note

Public Interest Research Group in Michigan (PIRGIM) was a student organization founded in 1972 that worked for and with students on environmental issues, consumer protection, and public interest issues. In addition students worked with professionals to lobbyists to learn how to research issues and then work for change. The statewide organization is still active.

Scope and Contents note

The Public Interest Research Group in Michigan (PIRGIM) records contains brochures such as a student guide regarding banks in the area and a PIRGIM Directory of Consumer Assistance Services. Also included are flyers called “pirgrim exposes” and “What has PIRGIM done for ME lately?” The collection also includes a ca. 1981 June edition of the PIRGIM Citizen’s Connection newspaper.
