Historical Note

The Varsity Club was organized circa 1914-1915 with a goal to promote cooperation among athletes, the athletic department and student body. The organization is open to current or past Michigan State University varsity letter holders. The organization sponsors events, awards, and scholarships. The group later became the Varsity 'S' Club and then the Varsity Alumni S Club.

Kirk Gibson (LA Dodgers) undated 

Biographical Note

Played MSU Football (1975-78) and Baseball (1978). Played with Detroit Tigers from 1983 to 1987. Gibson joined the Dodgers in 1988-1990. In 1991, he signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals, and then in 1992 signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He retired from baseball temporarily but the following spring, Sparky Anderson convinced him to return to baseball. He spent the final three years of his career (1993–1995) back with the Detroit Tigers.
