Historical Note
Sigma Nu, a national fraternity that was founded at the Virginia Military Institute, formed its Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) chapter in 1934 with the merger of two local student societies, the Eunomian Literary Society and the Olympic Literary Society. The Olympic Literary Society was organized in October of 1885. A. L. Marhoff and other charter members started it because the two other literary societies were filled to their constitutional limit. In 1903, the Sigma Mu Beta Literary society was formed by Burt Wermuth and Clem Ford. In 1904, the society changed its names to the Eunomian Literary Society.
Scope and Content
The records of Sigma Nu consist of materials from the Eunomian and Olympic Literary Societies and include yearbooks and programs. Photographs from both literary societies and Sigma Nu are also included.
