Historical Note
In the early years of Michigan State University, there was a Student Council (UA 12.1.3) and a Student Association (UA 12.1.4) charged with maintaining order in student housing. These groups were made up of officers from the cadet battalions, upperclassmen, or elected classmates.
In 1975, an elected Student Council (UA 12.1.11) was created as part of the Academic Governance system and comprised of representatives from each of the colleges, at-large members, members of the Council of Graduate Students, members from the Steering Committee and a chairperson. The council's major function is to act as a student voice to the faculty.
Scope and Content
The majority of this collection is recordings of meetings discussing matters pertaining to student academic life, 1976-1992. There is one folder containing meeting minutes from 1989 to 1992.
