Biography

Herbert Winslow Collingwood was born in 1857 in the State of Massachusetts. He attended the Michigan Agricultural College and graduated in the class of 1883 with a B.S. In 1881, he was on the Board of Editors for The College Speculum newspaper and was the Business Manager. He read his poem "On the Threshold" during the 1883 commencement. He became Editor-in-Chief of the "  The Rural New Yorker" newspaper for nearly half a century until his death in October of 1927. A feature of this newspaper was his "Hope Farm Notes" column. He married Lillie D. Sullivan circa 1888. He was also the author of the book  Andersonville Violets: a story of Northern and Southern life.

Scope and Contents note

Collection consists of one poem by Collingwood read at the Decennial Reunion of the Chpater Iota of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity in 1882.
