Biographical Note

Philena Esther Smith, of Lansing, Michigan, earned her B.S. degree in Home Economics from Michigan Agricultural College in 1912. While at M.A.C., she was a member of the Sororian Literary Society (Kappa Phi Zeta Sorority), the Dramatic Club, and J-Hop Banquet Committee. She was also Assistant Art Editor of the 1911 Wolverine and participated in the first year of Women's Class Basketball (1911). She later taught Domestic Science in the Lansing Public Schools. She married Alvin C. Pratt, M.A.C. class of 1907, also of Lansing.

Scope and Contents note

The papers of Philena Smith consist of personal artwork and a scrapbook containing programs, invitations, tickets, greeting cards, letters, report cards, menus, postcards, and news clippings related to student life at Michigan Agricultural College. Photographs are of friends and campus events. Some items pertain to her student athletic participation in Lansing High School. The photographs include the Lansing High School Girls Basketball team of 1906, Wolverine staff circa 1911 and portraits of people mostly unidentified.
