Biographical Note
Rolan Wallace Sleight, of Laingsburg, Michigan, earned his B.S. in Agriculture from Michigan Agricultural College in 1915. While at M.A.C., he was a member of the Farmer's Club, the Seminarius Botanicus (a botany honorary), and the Dorian Literary Society (Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity). After graduation, Sleight married Bernice Beckwith, of East Lansing, Michigan. The Sleights farmed in Laingsburg for a number of years before moving to St. Johns, Michigan, where Rolan became District Manager for the State Farm Insurance Company. Rolan Sleight was the Secretary of the class of 1915 Alumni Club.
Scope and Contents note
The Rolan Sleight papers consist of a program and memorabilia from the Michigan Agricultural College Circus (1911-1914), programs of Alumni Club events (1940-1966), undated records of the Class of 1915 Alumni Club, and a scrapbook containing photographs, athletic schedules, M.A.C. songs, invitations, programs, news clippings, menus, fee receipts, and report cards (1911-1915). The photographs in the collection include images from his time at M.A.C. including class rush or class rivalry, alumni reunion of the class of 1915 in 1930, military science company B, students in front of Williams Hall, Gideon Smith, and a crowd in stands.
