Biographical Note
Coy Eklund met John Hannah while serving as band director at Camp Shaw. He was given a scholarship to attend Michigan State College (now Michigan State University). He graduated from MSC in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science in Police Administration. He started working for The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States in 1938 while still at college.
In 1942, he was called into service and remained so until the end of the war in 1945. He left the service as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He returned to The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States and became an agency manager in Detroit. In 1982 he became Chairman and CEO of The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States.
Eklund received honorary doctorates from Michigan State University, Northern Michigan University and St. Augustine's College.
Scope and Contents note
The accession consists of one CD entitled "Coy Eklund interviews John Hannah" from May 1977. The interview was part of the Equitable Public Affairs Series. The CD is 40 minutes long.
The provenance of the CD is unknown. An archivist found it at the archives and it was accessioned.
