Biographical Note

Jack Warren graduated from Michigan State College with a Bachelor of Art Degree in 1946. While attending Michigan State College he was part of the Army ROTC. After graduating, he trained to become an infantryman and later joined the 1st United States Cavalry stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. After his military service during World War II, he received a Law Degree in 1949 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While no longer on active duty, he was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1951, he married, Pat Cox. They had four children: Scott, Tom, Erich, and Janet. In 1967 he was elected as an Ingham County Circuit Judge. Jack Warren suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was 87 when he died on January 25, 2009.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of one volume of transcribed letters called "Sunset Ride: A Cavalry Story from World War II". The letters were written by Jack Warren about his time at Michigan State University in the ROTC, his time in the 1st United States Cavalry, and his time in the infantry and cavalry during World War II. The letters are dated from 1943 through 1947. Also included in the volume are bibliographical notes about Jack Warren's life after his service in the military provided by his children.
