Biography

Arthur A. Crozier graduated from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in 1879 with his B.S. degree. After graduation he started working as a horticulturist in Hudsonville (possibly Michigan). He received his M.S. from the University of Michigan in 1885. He worked as an assistant agriculturist at the M.A.C Experiment Station until 1888. From 1888-1889, Crozier was a botanist at the Iowa Experiment Station. He then went on to become Special Agent of the Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. In this position, he collected grasses for the Paris Exposition of 1889. In 1890, he held the position of Pomological Editor of the Standard Dictionary. He wrote several texts including: “Popular Errors About Plants,” “The Modification of Plants by Climate,” “The Cauliflower,” and “A Dictionary of Botanical Terms.” He died in Ann Arbor on January 28, 1899.

Scope and Contents note

The papers consist of a photocopy of a letter Crozier wrote to his father on May 4, 1879. In the letter, he mentions his upcoming graduation and his desire for a teaching position. He also writes that he is enclosing an article on evolution and discusses which professors on campus believe in evolution. In addition, he mentions a sermon he attended and goes on to describe several religious articles he read and the topic of a religious class. The religious topics do not involve evolution.
