Biographical Note

Henry G. Reynolds graduated from Michigan Agricultural College (now known as Michigan State University) in 1870 with a B.S. degree, a M.S. in 1873 and a M.H. in 1893. Between the B.S. and M.S., he spent a year at Fresenius Laboratory, Wiesbaden, Germany (1872). From 1872 to 1884, he was a fruit grower at Old Mission, Michigan. He served as member on the State Board of Agriculture (now known as Board of Trustees) from 1879 to 1885. In 1885, he accepted the position as secretary of the State Board of Agriculture where he served until experiencing ill health in June 1893.

Scope and Contents note

The Henry G. Reynolds collection of 4 volumes contains correspondence, receipts, bank deposits, purchase orders, board resolutions, and other records associated with Board of Agriculture and the Michigan Agricultural College. Of special note are papers related to the Samuel Johnson Affair (1886-1889) which culminated in the resignation of four professors and the suspension of 18 students. See Madison Kuhn collection (UA 17.107) for more information on the Samuel Johnson Affair.

Some papers from this collection were removed and placed in the Madison Kuhn collection (UA 17.107) prior to the processing of this collection.
