Biographical/Historical
Marvin E. Mapes was born on December 12, 1893 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Western State Normal School and in 1917 was the superintendent of schools in Dorr, Michigan. He was a member of Company B, 301st Tank Battalion during World War I. He was killed in action in France on September 29, 1918 during the Somme offensive and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Scope and Contents note
The Marvin E. Mapes collection contains five postcards of Camp Robinson, Wisconsin. Camp Robinson was later renamed Fort McCoy. Three postcards show the lay out and buildings of the camp. The buildings have been identified by Mapes. There are two postcards showing 4.7 inch guns. There is also a portrait of Marvin E. Mapes in uniform.
