Biographical Note

Albert B. Graham was born on March 16, 1868 near Lena, Ohio. He attended the National Normal School in Lebanon, Ohio and received a B.S. degree in 1888. He then went to Ohio State University and received his teaching certificate in 1890. In 1890 Graham married Maud Keyte Lauer and they later had four children. He taught in rural schools in Ohio from 1890 to 1896. As school superintendent of Clark County,he organized a Boys' and Girls' Agriculture Experiment Club in 1902. This eventually became the 4-H Club that is popular today. In 1905 Graham became Superintendent of Agriculture Extension at Ohio State University because of his work with the Club. In 1914 he started working at New York State School of Agriculture in there Extension system. He stayed there one year and then left for Washington, D.C. to work in the United State Department of Agriculture. He later worked for the Federal Extension Service from 1919 until his retirement in 1938. He retired to Clintonville, Ohio, where died in 1960.

Scope and Contents note

The papers consist of one 1911 letter from Reverend William Lytteil of Brier, Michigan, to Albert B. Graham. In the letter Lytteil gives the origins and history of the name Graham. Although the letter is written on Michigan Agricultural College letterhead, Lytteil’s association with the college is unknown.
