Biographical/Historical
“Focus: Michigan Women”, a conference held at the Lansing Civic Center, June 10 and 11, 1977, was an important milestone for Michigan women. For the first time in history, the United States Congress authorized and funded meetings for women, mandating that those meetings be held in 1977 in all fifty-six states and territories, and that delegates elected at each meeting should attend a National Women’s Conference in Houston, Texas, in November, 1977.
Michigan’s Coordinating Committee for this International Women’s Year Meeting felt that it was important to leave a lasting reminder of this event. Fran Harris, a former committee member, was commissioned to research, write and publish a book on Michigan women and their contributions to history.

Scope and Contents note
The publication presents brief biographical sketches (and photographic reproductions) of women considered by the committee to be influential in the history of Michigan from 1701-1977.
