Biographical/Historical

According to the 1880 federal census for Benzonia, Benzie County, Michigan, Lizzie Kellogg lived with the family of A. L. Gridly, which included his wife, Grace, and their two daughters, Gracie, age 3 and Rena, age 1.

A. L. Gridley was the minister of the First Congregational Church in Benzonia, Michigan. Lizzie Kellogg was a member of that church in 1880 according to the Manual of the First Congregational Church of Benzonia, Michigan, 1899.

Scope and Contents note

The collection contains a partial transcript of the trial of Lizzy Kellog vs. the First Congregational Church. Witnesses for the prosecution are Mrs. Hopkins, Miss Sarah Barbard, and Charles E. Bailey. For the defense, the only witness is the defendant, Miss Lizzy Kellog. The testimony contained herein concerns alleged illicit relations between the defendant and a Mr. Maltby (not present). The decision is not included.
