Scope and Contents note

Photocopies of miscellaneous notes and drawings of mill machinery and other papers of Copley, a flour and lumber mill operator of Champion, Jefferson County, New York. Alexander Copley (1790-1842) migrated to southwestern Michigan in 1833 from Champion, New York. He was the father of Alexander Bennett Copley (1822-1899) who inherited his father's business concerns and later disposed of them. Included are three volumes (1825-1843) containing notes and drawings for the construction of mills and mill machinery, mill accounts (1837-1846) and family and farm accounts (1848-1879). Also included are a history of Alexander B. Copley and his family taken from the "Decatur Republican" (1945); and three small diaries.
