Biographical Note
Harvey Cookson Saunders was born on May 9, 1878 in Greenfield, Maine. He came to Michigan in 1897 and worked for his uncle, Frank Cookson, on the Driggs River. He married Sarah Eastman and they had three children. He died in January 1967 in Schoolcraft, Michigan.
Scope and Contents note
This collection consists of a series of short reminiscences by Harvey C. Saunders describing lumbering in Michigan between 1878 and 1934. Saunders worked on log drives near Seney, Michigan, and along the Manistique and Indian Rivers, and Doe and Skeels Lakes. He describes logging camps and towns, as well as the different aspects of logging, especially the drives.
