Biographical Note

Kit Clardy (1892-1961) was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1952 from Michigan's 6th District. He served one term and was defeated for re-election in 1954 by Donald Hayworth. During his term, Clardy served on the House of Un-American Activities Committee, concentrating his efforts on removing all Communist influences from American life. He brought a sub-committee to Michigan to investigate Communist activities in the state, particularly in the labor unions.

Scope and Contents note

The collection contains campaign materials, newspaper clippings, and weekly "Washington Reports," newsletters to Clardy's constituents describing his Congressional and committee work.
