Biographical Note

Thomas C. Bradley served in the 12th Michigan Infantry in 1861 and 1862. He was wounded in the Spring of 1862, and after several months of medical leave he was detailed to the Provost Marshal's Office in Memphis, Tennessee. He spent the remainder of the war there, as a member of the U.S. Police and the River Police as well as the Secret Service. These police groups were responsible for maintaining order in Memphis as well as arresting smugglers and counterfeiters. Bradley remained in Memphis until 1866, when he returned to Michigan. He later became a Justice of the Peace in Berrien County, Michigan.
