Biographical Note
Pierpont Smith (born circa 1806) was an early settler in Dexter, Michigan, but by 1829 he had given up his claims and moved to New York. Smith apparently moved his family back to Dexter in the early 1880's. He died on January 28, 1887 in Marion, Michigan.
Scope and Contents note
This collection consists of letters from friends in Dexter, encouraging him to move back. They discuss agricultural prospects, politics, and local gossip. Also included are some family correspondence and rough genealogy for the Smith family.
