Historical Note
The Advance Plating Company was located on 13440 Klinger St. in Detroit, Michigan. The President of the company was Bernard M. Baur. During the 1940s the Advance Plating Company received a war contract to make gun parts, naval diesel motor parts, parachute parts and bombing gear parts. On January 18, 1943, Advance Plating Company became on of four Michigan plants to receive the Army-Navy "E" Award for excellence in war production. In August 1943, it received a white star on their Army-Navy "E" Award flag for continued excellence in war production. The plant also gained notoriety for buying bonds for its servicemen. The workers paid for half of the bonds while the management paid the other half. Each week a new man in military service from their plant would get a $25 bond.
Scope and Contents note
The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings about the company's entry candidate in the Miss Victory contest, winning the "E" award, and war bonds for workers. Also included are certificates and photographs, some with captions, of people working in various departments including women, and the "E" award ceremony.
