Historical Note

The National Association of Postmasters of the United States traces its origin to Detroit, Michigan in 1898. Thirty-seven years later in 1936, the Michigan chapter of the N.A.P.U.S. was granted its charter. The N.A.P.U.S. work principally to enhance postmasters political and financial status. The first state president under the new charter was Roscoe B. Huston, postmaster of Detroit.

Scope and Contents note

This collection contains historical material recording the original charter and succession of presidents from 1939 through 1978. Also present are newsletters, copies of the revised constitution and by-laws as well as two volumes, History of the N.A.P.U.S. and  Toward Postal Excellence.
