Chronology for Michigan Writers Series

The Michigan Writers Series is a series of public events sponsored by MSU's Division of Libraries, Computing & Technology and held at the MSU Main Library. The series began in January 1999 and typically includes five or six Friday night events during each semester. Each event includes one or more Michigan-based authors reading from their work and discussing it with the audience. The purpose of the series is to showcase the work of Michigan authors and to provide opportunities for MSU students, faculty and community members to meet and talk with Michigan authors. Invited authors are chosen by Peter Berg. In addition to the public event, each author is interviewed by Jane Arnold, Collection Development Coordinator for the Humanities at the MSU Libraries.

Fall 1999The series included Poet Anita Skeen and Novelist Pamela Ditchoff.
Spring 2000Novelist Peter Levine, Poet and Novelist F. Richard Thomas, Poets Margo Lagattuta and Katherine Fishburn, Poet and Short Story Writer Jim Daniels, and a Student Authors Night.

Scope and Contents

The Spring 1999 series included Mystery Writers Lev Raphel and Loren D. Estleman, Poet and Novelists Laura Kasischke and Gordon Henry, Poets Linda Nemec Foster and Judith Minty, and Short Story Writer Keith Taylor. Each eveining constitutes a series and the inaugural evening with Estelman and Raphael is divided into three subseries reflecting their individual readings and an interview componant of the evening with both authors.
