ST Audio DSP24 WDM drivers for Windows 2000 / XP: v7.1.0928, Beta 5 (10/31/01) ============================================================================== When should you use this driver? -------------------------------- This WDM driver can be used together with Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000 and XP. Other Windows versions (Windows 95 / 98 / NT 4.0) are not supported. We recommend to use the WDM driver instead of the existing Windows 2000/NT4 drivers if you are using: - Windows XP (with any audio software) - Windows 2000 (if you have problems with the existing drivers) - Windows 98 SE / Me (if you use Cakewalk SONAR) If you do not use any of these combinations, please do not use the WDM drivers. installation ------------ It is important that the existing drivers are completly removed before you install the WDM drivers for your DSP24. To do this, follow these steps: - unzip the drivers into a new directory - goto Control Panel -> Software and uninstall the "Audio DSP24" software - if you use Windows 98 SE or Me: launch DriverInfo.exe (available on www.staudio.com) and select "Uninstall Driver" - if you use Windows 2000 or XP: goto Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and delete the entry of the DSP24 card, do not reboot if Windows asks you to do so - if you use Windows 2000 or XP: goto the directory WINNT\INF and check all files with an OEMx.INF name. Delete any of the files that contain "Hoontech" or "ST Audio" (open them to check, then delete them if needed) - shutdown and reboot the system (installation will not work properly unless you reboot the system) You can install the new WDM driver now. Windows will detect the DSP24 card as a new hardware component. Make sure to give Windows the directory with the WDM driver when it asks for driver information. After the driver is installed, the new updated version of the applications need to be installed. Existing applications (External Links, External Mixer) are not compatible with the new WDM driver. To install the apps: - launch AudioDSP24Api(WDM 2001-10-31).exe from the driver download and follow the instructions on screen - now reboot The installation of the driver is finished now. general information ------------------- The DSP24 WDM Driver is a new WDM driver that supports all basic functions as WaveOut, Recording, MIDI, etc. as the existing drivers. Also the applications have the same user interface and functions as previously. Differences to the existing Windows NT4/2000 drivers: 1) Multi-Card support (support for up to 4 cards) 2) H/W and Box/Routing related settings are set by the driver now, this means that External Links no longer must be in the StartUp group (we still recommend this) 3) You can use DirectSound output on any output device because they're WDM. 4) Stability is improved. Functions that are not supported in this driver but will be added: 1) GSIF and Multi-Client (MME/GSIF/ASIO support simultaneous) GigaStudio for Windows 2000 / XP is not available to the public yet. We are working to add support for this software under Windows 2000 / XP already however 2) AC-3 output (S/PDIF format support) 3) Direct3D support (4 channel out, Output1/2/3/4) further questions? ------------------ If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us using the ST Audio Q&A forum under www.staudio.com -> Service -> Q&A.
